It feels like no one gets fired for letting products rot from the inside.

I had a coworker quip that no, we weren't even product driven, we were sales driven. Given what I've seen the quip keeps feeling ever more on target.

Ship new shit forever. Concern yourself only with new value, new addressable markets, new features.

The story here is absurdly different from what happens everywhere else. Prioritizing not being bad at what you do just doesn't happen. Having consequences for letting yourself rot within is almost unheard of. Most companies have skeletons in the closet stacked to unreasonable degree. That someone might actually face a reckoning for it feels unheard of.
