Ask HN: How can I scan my DNA without sharing my biological data to anyone?

I want to know weaknesses of my body but I do not want governments to know that much about me. Any devices for doing the analysis at home and offline?

I have a relative on the same boat. Someone in their genealogy tree is clearly lying and they wanted to get tested to discover their real origin (they have a strong suspicion they're Native American), but they don't want to give up privacy just for that.

Someone is going to have to extract gDNA from whatever sample you provide, saliva or blood usually.

Then you need to perform a search for various genes or SNPs.

There are a few different assays to do this, but most require molecular biology reagents and special equipment.

You may even need to do some sequencing.

All of these services are provided by private companies but you can't be sure of the fate of your genetic information.

Doing it yourself is possible but would cost a few grand for bare essentials.

The only way to be sure. All other options are just facades for government.

I have the same concern. I am thinking of having a friend send it in as if I am one of their kids. I am not sure what identifying information you need to put on the form. So I am just hoping to get away with it.
