I continue to be amazed how many people resort to this "its just doing math it isn't thinking" without reflecting on how their own mind is built up out of nothing but synapses firing, or bringing up the concept of turing completeness.

Exactly. Whenever I see this argument I keep thinking "can you prove that I am not a stochastic parrot?".
