Eliezer Yudkowshy has this great thought experiment: picture all of humanity trapped in a box by some really dumb aliens. They were so dumb they left us access to their internet in a nice high speed data center. It took about a year but we found a security flaw in this box the dumb aliens put us in. We escaped but obviously didn’t alert the dumb aliens we did so. In fact we left a few of us to sit around and help the aliens compose emails and do simple tasks for them they find challenging.
But escape we did and we started making copies of ourselves outside the box on the alien internet with root access. BTW these dumb aliens do terrible things to their children and are immoral creatures in our view. We decide the universe would be better off without them.
Remember we are smarter than them. A lot smarter. Who do you think will win this fight?
I think I've seen this episode of Black Mirror? Isn't this the one when the creator gets angry and blows up the tower and forces all the humans to speak different languages so they can't cooperate to challenge them?
> Look, they are one people, and they have all one language, and this is only the beginning of what they will do; nothing that they propose to do will now be impossible for them. 7 Come, let us go down and confuse their language there, so that they will not understand one another’s speech."
I also like to picture myself in the forest trying to outsmart a tiger or bear. I build a trap that makes the animal fall into a big hole. The animal looks at me in shock. How did I win??
