How Far Can Tech Companies Slash Staff? (vanityfair.com)

"[Twitter's] culture, the former executive said, wasn’t just about creating a fun workplace, it was about innovation and design and staying ahead of competing technologies."

But, you know, the thing is, Twitter wasn't especially innovative. Or, if they were, it never seemed to show up in it's user experience, or anywhere else visible outside the company (including to shareholders).

The irony is the better ran the tech company, the more they can slash without short term consequences, but the long term impact might be catastrophic and difficult to diagnose.

"With AI on the rise, the industry may not be getting these jobs back."

Ha! While there was definitely a lot of over-hiring, and there are many inefficiencies in how software and tech companies more generally are run, AI is not one of the top several reasons for any of this. The closer one is to any topic which newsmedia report on, the more obvious it is that they don't generally know what they're talking about.
