Leaving Google Brain (yitay.net)

And so it begins. The big brain drain that will devastate Google.

Not even the people at Google believe they can beat OpenAI.

It’s getting uglier by the day for them.

I think people leave Google to do a startup, or otherwise scratch some itch to work on different things.

I worked as a contractor at Google, stay in touch with a lot of Googlers, and I have never heard anyone say they wasted time there. You are asking if they left because Google can’t beat OpenAI. You might be correct, but OpenAI might not survive either, except to serve Microsoft.

All that said, as a user/developer I love what Google, Microsoft, and OpenAI (and Hugging Face, etc.) have to offer.

You are right that OpenAI won’t be the “owner of AI”.

And Google was a wonderful company to work for.

But there’s a revolution going on now. Not just in tech. Everything is changing very quickly. Tech is just a bit catalizer of the process that we are going through as humanity.

AI wants to be open, available and accessible to everyone.

The sentiment is very clear from all the projects that people are building.

People are feeling empowered.

And they are adding fuel to the fire.

They are not going to OpenAI. They are going to something much worse: [0]

Anything to push the current dystopia further.
