How Big of a Climate Betrayal Is the Willow Oil Project? (nytimes.com)

How can people use language like "climate betrayal" and act like it's not a religion?

What is the advantage of using that kind of terminology to discuss it? It makes it easy for people to dismiss any actual valid points that either the specific criticism has, or the entire movement to address climate change. The only purpose it serves is to whip up an already hysterical base, at the expense of credibility.

Should we just call it as promise betrayal then? There was a promise made during the elections that there would be no new drilling permits.

Yes, I think "Administration breaks election promise on oil project" or anything along those lines is factual (or at least verifiable) without being sensational

Outrage generates clicks. Nuance is for the unambitious.

Uhhh... the administration got betrayed first.

As soon as gas prices rose last year, even hardline environmental groups like the Sunrise Movement suddenly became consumer advocates. And now you have prominent individuals like Greta Thunberg actively protesting against green energy projects.

These groups are not actually serious about the causes they promote. So the administration is clearly going to pursue objectives that cause people who actually vote to be happy.
