Do you find that reduces how meaningful those comments are? I'm thinking that it might make it like gifts given on "mandatory gift events" vs gifts given just because someone thought of you. The former is nice, but much less meaningful than the latter.

I've never worked at a company that required this sort of thing, so I'm just trying to wrap my head around it. It seems odd to me.



It's not mandatory. It's encouraged. And most people don't need to have their arm twisted to show a little appreciation.


By "mandatory", I mean "socially expected".

Absolutely. This was the point I was trying to make -- someone expressing appreciation because they felt moved to do so means a whole lot more than someone expressing appreciation because there is a social expectation that they do so.


It's anonymous. We don't even know who's posting or who isn't.
