For one thing, Rasmussen is noted for being a right-wing pollster. For another thing, that's one of the dumbest poll questions I've ever heard. "Is it OK to be white?" Last I heard, we don't have much choice about our skin color. Speech and behavior, sure, but they didn't ask about that.
I would classify myself as 'extremely online' and can't say I was very aware of that troll campaign.
It seems just as or more likely to me that respondents interpreted the weird question in a more personal context and essentially rejected the premise (why is this person asking me about "being white" when I'm not white). There isn't any racism if you take the question that way and say 'no'.
'Originators assumed that “liberals” would react negatively to such fliers and condemn them or take them down, thus “proving” that liberals did not even think it was “okay" to be white.'
Ah yes, the ADL -- the genocide denial [1] hate organization. The ADL has been denying the Armenian genocide since as recently as 2016. This organization has zero credibility, given their hate-spewing opines.
If I understand your argument... You're saying Elon Musk is the acme of racial tolerance because the ADL once described a genocide which occurred 60-ish years before he was born as a "massacre" instead of a "genocide" ?
Or are you saying that the "It's Okay to be White" campaign was not used by neo-nazis?
> In that video, Adams expressed outrage at a Rasmussen poll that found 26 percent of Black Americans disagreed with the statement “It’s okay to be white,” compared with 12 percent of the general population. Another 21 percent of Black respondents said they were “not sure” about the statement.
Other findings of that poll, if cns news is to be believed: By race, 81% of Whites, 53% of Blacks and 58% of other races at least somewhat agreed it’s alright to be white
CNS misquoted in a pretty material way. The exact phrase is "It's OK to be white". Not "alright to be white". This matters because "It's OK to be white" is the phase used in a trolling campaign in 2017 and 2018. (https://www.adl.org/resources/hate-symbol/its-okay-be-white). This phrasing is a major error on the part of Rasmussen and invalidates the question, and possibly every question asked prior to the poorly phrased one.
Why is it a "hate symbol" to say it's okay to be white? Isn't this claim racist in itself? Moreover, how does a phrase that only chronically online Twitter addicts understand invalidate the poll?
Other statistics seem to back up the data, like a black person being double as likely to kill a white person than vice versa, according to the FBI. Racism from blacks towards whites could explain the large differences in homicide rates.
According to the latest census data[1] there are 5.7x more white people than black people in the US. If I indiscriminately killed people I would be 5.7x more likely to kill a white person than a black person. I'm sure you could say "most" the people I killed were white and hence it was an anti-white act, but that would really be missing the forest from the trees.
So if anyone wants to see a perfect example of Sea Lioning, this is it. This asshole asked a question that could easily answered by reading the link explicitly to waste my time, and had the nerve to state statistics without providing a link or any relevant analysis.
Google Trends is showing basically noise for that phrase. The majority of black people polled agree with that phrase. I highly doubt most respondents knew of a trolling campaign from six years ago.
Rasmussen is a famous Republican pollster. Their polls essentially always skew toward Republicans and the right. They did very well in the 2016 election and very poorly in 2020, if that tells you anything. It seems to be a "broken clock is right twice a day" situation. I don't think they're trying to produce propaganda -- I think they're just a bit biased and a bit incompetent.
CNS News is an extreme right-wing propaganda machine[1] funded in part by Exxon Mobil.
