My two cents is that you are optimizing for engineering excellence. A more cynical person would optimize for making as much money in their career as humanly possible, which is made easier by pitching new tech that seemingly "Solves all the problems that old stuff had". A non-techy business person will naturally want to win market, beat competition, and do things faster. If you push that really hard you get snake oil engineering and churn out garbage.
Also, I assume most people fall in the middle. Wants to make money but also wants to do a good job. It just turns out those with the purse strings have the incorrect assumptions about tech, and if you know anything about business people you know that a laundry list of facts and reasoning is not always a good way to convince some of them of what should be done. More than likely a majority would see an article about a company going big with technology X. Now they have it in their head they need that too.
