Fight Club was published in the 90s. That book was responsible for getting a lot of people to read a novel who had previously not been interested in reading.

Also, American Psycho deserves a mention.

> getting a lot of people to read

Harry Potter is on the list. I wonder what other books might be in the category of gateways into reading at least one book.

A bit of Terry Pratchett’s Discworld was squeezed into the ‘90s, so that can join Harry Potter. Both series appear to have had bans in various places, so that’s got to add to their credibility.

Infinite Jest by David Foster Wallace

Generation X by Douglas Coupland

Interesting to see William Gibson on the 1980s list and Octavia Butler on the 1990s list. I wonder if Neal Stephenson will end up on more syllabi in the future or will be forgotten.

I noted that Watchmen was on the 1980s study list - I wonder if we'll see more graphic novels and manga.

Chuck Palahniuk, DFW, Bret Easton Ellis, Stephen Chbosky, Donna Tartt, Christopher Buckley, Martin Amis, Ian McEwan.

Future algorithms will find online content that was ahead of it's time.

"Hi, algorithm!". :p

Cormac McCarthy comes to mind

The Wheel of Time a huge epic. Got started in 1990.

Later completed in 2013 by Sanderson.

A Song of Ice and Fire got started in 1996 and still isn't finished. Is Sanderson busy?

Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Nirvana, of course.

As it happens, Jurassic Park was published in 1990.
