The strange afterlife of George Carlin (nytimes.com)

Still love Carlin. He doesn't get old. George Carlin and Bill Hicks are the very best of America to me. Carlin was deeply compassionate and caring, a wholehearted champion of the underdog. But the only way he could speak to America, a country that deep down takes itself much too seriously on all the wrong topics like appearance, money, prudishness and violence, was with total irreverence. He talks and acts like he doesn't give a fuck what you think. But he really does care what you think. He cares that you think for yourself.
