Ask HN: Unemployed for 2 years, refreshing .NET/JS skills
2 points by herodotusxviii on Dec 25, 2022 | hide | past | favorite | 2 comments
Hello HN,

I've been out of the job market for about two years now due to taking care of family. Was formerly a .NET developer (mostly C# and JavaScript/HTML/CSS) at a medium/large company. I want to refresh my skills in the most efficient way possible before hitting the job market. Any advice is appreciated, thank you.

Misc:

32 years old, Male

Inland Empire, CA

6 years experience

Watch the recent .net conf videos on you tube to catch up with latest .net 7 tech and also watch the nick chapsas YouTube channel that covers the latest ms stack. That should get you up to speed and you can go from there.

Also build a project with the the latest ms stack, something like an e-commerce site with microservices and set yourself up as a business and put on your resume that the last two years you were the CTO of your own business developing e-commerce solutions for clients to fill your employment gap

Good luck

My advice - don't wait. Start applying.

As to refreshing your skills, there are quite a lot of good udemy classes. There are some free videos on YouTube, except I found that the structure of on line learning is better.
