Henry Cavill Is Doing a Warhammer 40K Series (kotaku.com)

My dreams nigh 30 years old are finally being realized. A very difficult setting to do credibly without an enormous budget or a very focused and scaled down story.

I wonder what aspects the first stories will focus on - will it be the grand Space Opera of the Heresy, a focussed and grizzled trench warfare series with the Guard, the crazed gangs of a hive city and the Arbites sent to police the broken city, Big E reconquering Terra in the Unification Wars.

Soooo much possibility.

Caiphas Cane and Eisenhorn would be fantastic.

Folks on reddit kept focusing on Caiphas Cane.

If we put ourselves in Amazon's shoes, it's whichever story would bring them closer to their business goal, my guess is they'll do the Heresy, Terra's invasion, or something else that is action packed to get people hooked, then flesh out other stories if it works out.

It might look a lot like LOTR.

Even just a one off with a particularly maverick Rogue Trader could introduce people to the various spacefaring species of the 41st Millenium - Stealing from the Tau, sparring with Dark Eldar, and enlisting aid of the Inquisition when Chaos comes a calling.

On the contrary, it's also possible we see Space Marine suits made out of cloth, a la Rings of Power.

I find it interesting, a big WH40k show is coming, and currently a WH40k: Rogue Trader (tabletop system) CRPG is in Alpha. Two things I did not expect.

The author writes in the tone of someone very hurt, exhausted, (probably appropriate) snarky pessimism.

I think this series could be fun. But also, yeah. All TV is a sad joke.

I’ve got this sense, not necessarily correct, that internet journalists are always tired and struggling to make a living. And that web game journalists are doubly so. I haven’t paid attention too much but I often notice that places like Kotaku or Polygon just churn through writers. Maybe that’s cheaper.
