Microsoft bans crypto mining using its online services (theregister.com)

...without prior Microsoft approval. In [0].

Not a complete outright ban like what Hetzner did and only requires permission to do so on Microsoft Azure. Just like how Consensys (Microsoft is an investor) is running Ethereum validator nodes on Azure. [1]

Sounds like a better deal than Hetzner.

Weird. I thought it was already banned. GCP support actually alert you when you have a cryptominer because it violates ToS, which is beneficial when you have users deploying stuff that gets compromised by cryptobots (e.g.: bad ssh password or docker api exposed to the net).

I always assumed these bans were because inefficiently mining over cloud services was often a case of stolen credentials or a rouge employee with access inappropriately using company resources for their own gain.

Often enough that it was worth banning outright.

This is probably not that big of a deal, because it most likely not beneficial to use cloud providers to mine crypto due to the costs especially with current market conditions.

Though I bet they run a lot of Ethereum and Bitcoin nodes, I know AWS powers majority of the Ethereum nodes and 70% of all Ethereum nodes are running on cloud providers.

This is only something you want to do if someone else is paying the Azure bill. It's basically a way to steal from your employer or to cash out some stolen/leaked Azure credentials.

Probably still an ongoing issue with github actions as well.
