China is an oppressive, totalitarian regime with literal concentration camps and murder vans, and folks who twenty years ago wanted to maintain dual citizenship, who sincerely believed in the "no first strikes policy", would often only say three words to me the next we spoke face to face:
"China has changed."

I very rarely go to protests, because I am autistic and don't like crowds and the reason that I originally did censorship circumvention research was seeing the police riot that was the Pittsburgh G20.
My deceased aunt had given me the money for a camera and an smartphone when I left for graduate school, and I got the sense folks were sometimes hamming it up when I was around, so I put the word out if I ever go a protest again, it's because I think they might start shooting.
(That happened in about 2020 -- we got a new Mayor, and one congressmen who I felt was not doing his job properly decided to never run for office.)
Blue lives matter in the sense that you shouldn't shoot someone who comes to you with a valid warrant, but that phrase is a piece purposefully divsive rhetoric, aritficially boosted by a variety of forces hostile to free expression.
Please don't troll like this in my replies ever again. I am a longtime HN user, and I prefer to simply chat about cool hacker stuff and upvote things in the new queue not... have interactions like this comment, which I just noticed and paused everything to reply to.
