Ask HN: Where to research on what B2B apps to build?

I'm been in software industry for just 10 years. Ideas are very limited. It's mostly marketing heavy needs; tools for helping flooding social media feeds. And analytics, site builders, cms, docs generators, api testing, little CRM, etc.

I think that's it. All are very saturated (I know .. 10 years ago people also said that).

Tech-enabled business seems to want websites, cms mostly which has plenty of off-shelf. Niche markets, most of the time, are too niche. Not worth building apps for.

"Yet another x is still good if that market is huge" .. doesn't sound good to me, because at some point it's just not good.

Thanks.

Most of non-tech people consider Excel as the ideal software. But they also know limitation of Excel, too (lack of data validation, complicated business logic, permission system, concurrent update,...)

Those are good ideas to start with B2B apps.

Yeah. The permission system is a popular need in addition to Excel. I think, generally it lacks of working process helper (logs, stage (draft, approve, by who), versioning)

I have seen so many non-technical people getting treated like wizards for knowing intermediate spreadsheet functionality. I always thought it would be interesting to enable people like that to do more powerful things with spreadsheets.

This is a b2b research problem; problems are invisible.

Not sure it's a good idea but:

an app marketplace where companies post some needs (problems) and apps in the market only have a trial plan. So companies discover more solutions, founders get pmf?

I personally love hierarchical lists. They are like a map for a territory.

These are 2 extensive maps for the app territory. They may at least offer you some keywords (to google)
