And nothing of value was lost...

Seriously, why has Reddit turned into such a feature factory? Are they just flailing around looking for something to do? How about improve performance.

If they were serious about improving Reddit, they’d fire all the mods who are usually weirdos who treat their subreddits as their own personal fiefdoms and seems like they are also selling their influence over posts to corporations. If you talk negatively about Marvel in /r/movies you can be banned. The capriciousness of the mods is what kills the experience.

The problem is if you get rid of the mods you have a moderation problem and lose ad revenue.

Pay someone to do it. When you make them unpaid positions, it means only people who are unqualified to be mods will end up as mods.

Take a look at Facebook, they're currently paying 15,000 people. This is a core contradiction at the heart of social media- you want it to be linear growth with fixed costs, paid moderation introduces linear growth with linear costs.

Last I was on there several months back availability was so in the gutter to the point that downtime was basically expected every other day. Maybe they can hire some ex Twitter SREs.

They announced they wanted to go public, and now are trying to do everything they can to juice engagement.

idk, it’s hard to know what might take off until you try. then lukewarm/low reception kills momentum and it rots until the time comes to remove it. or it’s popular and becomes a new transformative cornerstone of what is possible on your app.
