When people ask me where I grew up, I tell them "Big Flats, between Horseheads and Painted Post." Then they usually ask if that's in Australia.


Lots of places in the US in between the coasts. Not at all difficult to find on the usual real estate websites. You don't get much land, of course, for that kind of money. But you can certainly find a place to live.


Very large portions of the country outside of coastal cities.


Detroit.

Indeed, much the so-called 'rust belt' remains much cheaper than the coasts.
