This is a great talk/article and head and shoulders above pieces contemporary to 2022 in my opinion. It’s interesting how lucid and calculated Mike’s approach comes across fives years ahead of the “zettelkasten/second brain” wave. Every chapter and section was enlightening and describes the powerful possibilities of something as simple as document curation and serialization.

I fear however that these sort of approaches that are in the vein of the traditional hypertext discipline are too sophisticated for most people to catch on to in a way that their proponents may dream of. I like the concept of “We becomes them” and it is more or less inevitable on the Web. I like how he used the size of a university to put the size of Wikipedia’s contributions into perspective. I think approaches like his can attract a minute fraction of that. A minute fraction.

But nonetheless I think that this piece was really inspirational to me at least. It looks like the author is more focused on giving lectures on online misinformation. I wonder if he’s propagated any of the concepts discussed in this piece into his later work.

Thanks, Tomte.
