These results are so different from what I'd expect, but I spend a lot of, probably way too much, time on HN.
Why is HN so warped? Are we a giant feckless echo chamber when it comes to favored programming languages and trends? If we trust this report, reality is very different from what is projected throughout this forum.
The HN audience is mostly experienced developers who have learnt multiple languages so you aren't going to find so much Python, PHP, JavaScript (as opposed to Typescript) etc. because people here have had time to find better options.
Also those languages are old and boring so people don't talk about them as much.
The one that really surprises me is Ruby. I thought it was basically dead.
The results haven't changed much so I'm not sure what you expect. Perhaps you're used to Tiobe which is very inaccurate imho. The only surprise here for me is Dart has moved up significantly.
- top left corner, VB.NET. It is probably used frequently enough in businesses but nobody cares to release projects on GitHub. Is it poor version control culture? Is is a business only language?
- bottom right corner, Roff. Probably plenty of manpages
