You can. I still have a working Nokia s60 at home that can run a python script shell.

yeah. Most of the apps were made in C (or C++, I don't remember) or Java. But there was a Python port that was quite awesome to make experiments.
This was before the Iphone was launched IIRC and I think it only worked with the Nokia N series.
