Google has a long history of innovations that while sometime great, fail to achieve hockey stick growth and thus fail to move the revenue needle for a company that take in a 1/4 trillion dollars a year.

A billion dollar a year product would be lost in rounding error likely making it a candidate to send to the Google Graveyard.

I think if Google's ad business (81% of its revenue) was separated from the rest of the company, you would see much more attention paid to these types of products.
