I was just at a wedding and talked to a guy on the Nobel selection committee for Physics. He writes software for particle physics experiments. One of those conversations that remind you just how far the spectrum of human intelligence extends.


And they usually look so normal…


I hope AlphaFold is a contender for the physiology prize. It converted a formerly slow tedious process of determining protein shape into something fast and routine. The millions of results should revolutionize biology and medicine.


It's far too early to appraise the long term impact of alphafold. The Nobel committee is conservative and waits for years to view the impact.
