90% of the comments on hacker news are from people who clearly didn’t click the link. It’s usually some “slightly relevant” ramble about something that happened to them in 2006 :)
Quoting cool lines to bond with others is a totally normal human thing that I do too, but that internet culture (and nerd culture in general) has reduced to a sort of performative insiderism.
