I strongly disagree. Mainstream news has no place on here. I accept that the philosophy of the forum is "if it's voted, it stays", but what you're asking is pushing too far on the other direction. I enjoy the discussion around major and wide reaching world news events, but anything less than breaking news such as "the Queen has died", "Russia has invaded Ukraine" or "100 countries to close borders due to a virus" has no place in here.
Otherwise this will soon become News, not Hacker News.
