Interestingly, the emphasis of the article seems to be "it's a scam and you won't actually get $1M" rather than "evil hospitals are collaborating with criminals to ruin people's lives - and Google ads are here to help."

What is it with people who fall for scams where they're about to receive a lot of money, but just need to pay this little fee first?


Out of curiosity is this a sign of inflation? Last I knew $1M US was, if not a princely sum, at least enough to live very very comfortably for the rest of your life[1] in India.

I've known Indian professionals who would send what to an American sounds like a fairly small sum back to their home village and they would be feted when they came to visit. That was a couple decades ago though so maybe things have changed.

[1] Which will admittedly possibly be somewhat shorter down a kidney, but not necessarily by much if at all.
