I don't buy it. Discs are a fragile medium for storing anything, especially media that you intend to read-write to on-the-go. Putting a disc drive in your iPhone wouldn't significantly improve the device (besides maybe yielding a few TBs of storage), and the seek times for accessing regular content would probably necessitate a kernel-level rewrite of how asset streaming is handled. Nevermind the abysmal shock resistance and risk for mechanical failure, the tradeoffs of mechanical storage are downright clunky when compared to the simplicity of flash storage.
