The "Stop Online Piracy Act" could kill Internet startups

Hey guys,

First time poster. I used to be at WSGR (now at Mozilla) so worked with a lot of YC startups and wanted to send you all a heads up about legislation being proposed that could significantly hurt entrepreneurs like you and that actually has a good chance of passing unless people speak up - it's called SOPA or the "Stop Online Piracy Act". It greatly broadens what both government and big content can do if they remotely suspect that your business may be involved with even aiding someone in aiding someone else to commit infringement. What's even more troubling is that the bill has broad bipartisan support because no one is speaking up for the businesses that would be hurt by it.

Here's what the EFF had to say about it: https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2011/10/sopa-hollywood-finally-gets-chance-break-internet.

If you're interested in speaking out, some of the best ways is to reach out to your representative with a letter or an email. Here's an easy form to do that: https://wfc2.wiredforchange.com/o/9042/p/dia/action/public/?action_KEY=8173.

If you're interested in getting more deeply involved, post here.

Thanks for your time, Jishnu
