Will the Ukraine war force ESA to pass on Arianespace, use SpaceX? (arstechnica.com)

Why would they do that?

Unless the EU becomes the 51st state, they have no interest in giving up their space industry

They should double down on Ariane to reduce cost, Ariane 5 was used successfully to launch James Webb telescope

To me it sounds like an attempt to subsidize SpaceX using EU's money

Wich begs the same question, why would they do that?

Because restarting ariane 5 production would take much time and money too.

It could cost money and time to use SpaceX too

Then they'd need time and money again to develop their own again

It is not a smart investment, specially nowadays, EU needs less dependencies and more unity within itself

They should develop their own and bear the cost of the current option

They do develop their own, Ariane 6. It's just not ready yet.

The headline is inflammatory, I beg everyone to read the article (I know it's against HN rules..yes punish me)

I did read it

Again; Ariane 6 will be ready next year, they should bear the cost and time, and keep invest in their own industry
