explorer.exe is 347 mb memory usage in comparison. We really are in the year of the Linux desktop, those DEs are bloated like Windows used to be



1) The post has problems with math and the numbers are wrong

2) For fair comparison you should add memory used by daemons/services, otherwise I can say that gnome-shell uses only 200 Mb which is almost twice as low as your number

3) I am not sure if you can properly measure memory usage with Windows Task Manager. You need to account properly private, shared and swapped out pages for each process.


Lol.. Windows desktop runs a lot more than explorer.exe.


explorer.exe is closer to a window manager than a desktop environment. you'd have to compare it to kwin, mutter, xfwm, or i3.


Windows is still bloated.
