This seems a bit dismissive; the author is quite an adept programmer. Rather than assuming ignorance, is a more generous interpretation possible?

Are there any specific LP tools you've found beneficial? Personally, I don't know any, despite being familiar with Knuth's work.

I've been lucky so far not to have had any of that foisted on me by work, and in any side project where I call the shots, I would avoid it like the plague.
