So far, I have only seen AI-generated faces used in LinkedIn spam. The novel faces make it impossible to reverse-search them, meaning they seem more real.
There are unlimited harmful uses of the technology similar to that one: spam, scams, and propaganda.
So what is the beneficial use? What is something positive that this technology would enable?
One idea that comes to mind is using it for police lineups. Instead of bringing in a handful of random people that aren't suspects, maybe you show pictures of the suspect alongside people that don't actually exist.
More generally, tasks that require the use of people for purely visual aspects(think extras in movies) could easily be made more efficient for this sort of thing.
For the first one, I see why it would help, but why is it better not to use mugshots of other random people? I can't think of a way the real people are harmed by being used in that group of photos.
You'd also have the issue of the defense claiming that the victim could subtly detect the CG people, which would probably be true for the next few years at least.
As for the movie extras... I think it's still more expensive to have pure CG extras than human ones, but I can imagine that might change in the future. It's kind of a small benefit though, right?
Additionally, being able to give faces to people who want to remain anonymous without having to disclose that they are anonymous. Could be helpful for certain confidential reporting scenarios
Pretending someone is not anonymous while they are anonymous is deceptive. It would be like a journalist making up names for sources without disclosing that they're made up.
That sounds like I'd file it under "evil," not good. The anonymous person isn't helped by the illusion of being a fake person.
