Recommended: The Accursed Kings by Maurice Druon [0]. An historical novel covering from the death of Jacques de Molay by the hands of Philippe le Bel to the beginning of the hundred years war. One of the novel is "The She-Wolf of France".

Not everything is accurate but still it follows much of the history of this period. Apparently used as an inspiration by Martin for Games of Throne.

He figures in Umberto Eco's 'Foucault's Pendulum' as well.


Most of the middle of that book was a hard read.


Agreed, it isn't Eco's best. But it was entertaining to see how he managed to connect so many historical threads in a somewhat plausible way.


Not just that though; Martin used many I think, including Wars of the Roses.
