When I started out in dev, you could use Mysql, which then had no consistency checks and was known for losing data.

Or you could pay big for DB2, Oracle or MS Sql Server.

(Could be PG existed, but if so, no one had heard of them - which means the company wouldn't trust them)

Now, I take it for granted that my Postgres instance is (as far as my needs go) no less capable than any of the paid databases, comes free - and doesn't even try to spy on me (looking at you, Oracle).
