It's hardly exclusive to FB. Legislators are terrified of passing laws that might "break Google", so to speak, and they can't regulate what they don't understand.

It's the least assuring part of the current cabinet and dashes hopes that GDPR-like recognition of human privacy and data rights will ever be discussed. Yang must have been a horrifying prospect to the tech oligarchs to broach these topics to the nation in broad daylight.
