To save you a click:

Hi everyone – this is Nate Simpson, Creative Director for Kerbal Space Program 2. We have made the difficult decision to move the release date of KSP 2, which will now launch in early 2023 on PC with our console release later that year.

We are building a game of tremendous technological complexity, and are taking this additional time to ensure we hit the quality and level of polish it deserves. We remain focused on making sure KSP2 performs well on a variety of hardware, has amazing graphics, and is rich with content. We’ve built a spectacular team at Intercept Games – a team that includes, as previously mentioned, key members from the development team behind the original Kerbal Space Program. We have the perfect combination of experienced, passionate, and skilled developers to fully realize this game’s ambitious potential.

We are forever grateful to the KSP community for sticking with us on this journey, and we appreciate your continued support as we push towards the finish line. We can’t wait for everyone to play the game, and we’ll keep sharing more information with you in the coming months.

I really hope they don't end up requiring too much in terms of graphics. The entire point of KSP was the fun, the humor and the screw ups you made along the way. Building and launching huge and impractical rockets because you didn't know any better. I did kinda enjoy the science progression, because it forced you to make stupid hacks (rocket didn't go far enough up? Add two solid boosters, just use the second to blow up the first), but if they make it too serious it will lose the feel for the game.

Two recommendations for KSP1 mods, if you want progression from the base game and to learn a ton about real spacefaring history:

RP-1: Realistic progression career using the real solar system, real part configurations, etc. Actually a mod pack of about 80 different mods including the Realism Overhaul base pack. Start in 1951 and build your space program. Newly updated for v1.12 (the last KSP1 minor version) and has an express install option now. Principia: N-body orbital mechanics. Actively developed, works with the stock solar system & Real Solar System. A truly stunning achievement. https://github.com/mockingbirdnest/Principia

Love the original KSP! Sad as I am to hear about the delay, I’d rather they take the time needed to polish the game instead of rushing it out the door. Looking forward to the release next year!

Time will tell, but I have some concern they are working toward something that becomes undeliverable (KSP 2 Forever?). I'm indifferent to the game but have a child who is deeply into KSP and looking forward to KSP 2, asks weekly for status updates--not looking forward to delivering the bad news after school today.

If your kid hasn't already stumbled upon the KSP modding scene, it might be a good way to tide them over until KSP2

Yes, thanks! He's been deep into mods since the his start, following build videos of Scott Manley and Everyday Astronaut. Pressing me hard to upgrade the family 2013 MBP to support every larger craft and complex missions. Dislikes the Xbox UI and lack of unofficial modes.

I hope there is a way to bring the mods (and the effort they represent) along to KSP 2 but would prioritize shipping over it.

So excited, it has been on my steam wishlist for eons.
