Considering how critical he and other analysts have been of Twitter's relatively bloated staff count, they might be doing his work for him.

I was thinking the same, but there's no reason to think that only "redundant" people will leave on moral grounds.

They will likely lose some brilliant people, too. Even worse, they may also lose people who have institutional knowledge that's critical to maintaining the service.
