Asking countries to limit their production is just not feasible.
It's very easy to describe what an ideal world "would" look like. I mean if there was no crime the world would be awesome, but we aren't going to kindly ask all human's to be better. That's what religion is for. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.
The UN would do better to invest in actual ingenuity, in efforts to make our species multiplanetary, better renewable energy sources, radically new city living ideas, whatever it is. Get people behind exciting ideas!
Ringing the bell and saying the world is going to end is just not going to achieve any meaningful result. Humanity has overcome incredible odds, mostly by ignoring those bell ringers. Nihilism is easy.
I would have more respect for this arguments, if they acknowledge they are leaving humankind future to a gamble.
Also a bonus if there was some mention around some actors who are not “doing nothing” but actually pouring lots of money into convincing society that degrowth is not possible.
