I think book banning is indefensible.

Removing a book from a school curriculum is not at all banning, though.

And not carrying a book in a school library is somewhere in-between those extremes. The context is probably the determiner, there... why is it being removed? I'd be inclined to view pulling books negatively, though.


Counterpoint banning books in 2021 isn't the same as 2000. Some ban attempts are just disagreements over required curriculum choices not stopping anyone from reading it. Most books are easily accessible in a number of formats where they were not 20-30 years ago. Just because a book is "banned" doesn't automatically make it good.


I believe in general people would think that a banned book is bad, comes quite natural with the word banned…



Removing a book from children school libraries and the curriculum because they are not age appropriate is not banning books. The books are in print, in public libraries, commercial bookstores and available for purchase online. Not banned at all.
