Very interesting - I know NASA has also been studying using plants for air filtration in space (many are especially good at filtering out certain gasses like Toulene or Benzene and whatnot). Plus of course they produce oxygen and give a psychological benefit to the astronauts up there.

I always thought it was mind blowing that there are some trees where you can let them grow to a certain size, completely dig them out, flip them upside down, and then the roots will start growing leaves. Plants are amazingly adaptable and robust.

I believe you, I've seen similar methods used to increase potato yields. But nonetheless, I'd love to read about such a thing if you can find it!

These plants all seemed very tiny.

Are we close to the point where we could make an indoor garden of larger plants in biosphere on the moon for example? (Assuming all the necessary feeding parts were provided?)
