I do feel bad about them, but I suspect the Chinese government does not have their welfare in mind. Look at China's previous island adventure: A little over 700 democracy activists imprisoned in the past months in Hong Kong. The number of democracy activists in prison for wanting local democracy may soon be larger than the total number of Chagossians.

Why are these guys that invaded the Hong Hong parliament building 'democracy activists' while the guys that invaded the Congress building on January 6th 'terrorists'?
I call them democracy activists because their goal is universal suffrage for Hong Kong's legislative and chief executive.
I don't call the fools that invaded the Congress building terrorists, because AFAICT instilling terror was neither a goal nor a means to a goal for them.
