Is this general inflation of all building supplies, or specifically just lumber? I'm curious if anyone knows if there are alternatives to lumber that would be more feasible at these prices.



Metal studs are popular for replacing 2x4s in walls. They have a lot of advantages over standard white pine.

They're still more expensive, but $11 (metal) vs $9 (WP) is less of a premium than the usual ~2x.
