Ask HN: Who is looking for help on a project?

I have been a software developer for 4 years now, but I realize more and more every day that I lack some skills one can only learn from beings a part of a team of engineers (I’m a solo developer on my team).

I’ve tried going the route of finding open source projects , but those seem difficult to get into (although I would still consider being involved as long as I get experience).

I’ve been on a few interviews but was told “you lack the needed experience”. This scares me after working for 4 years because it seems like I’m not getting the right exposure.

Getting to the point. I want more experience. I would love to contribute to any project.

Google Summer of Code perhaps? You have to apply but it's not limited to students, just FOSS beginners, and with 4 years of experience you could probably talk the talk and walk the walk well enough to get in.

FOSS Orgs taking part: https://summerofcode.withgoogle.com/programs/2022/organizati...

I've got a lot of good first projects for github.com/multiprocessio/datastation and github.com/multiprocessio/dsq. If you have any experience in Go it will be easy to get you up and running. I've already had a few students and self-learners start contributing.

Join #dev on discord.multiprocess.io and say hi and I'll show you some of the stuff you can help with.

I'd welcome any feedback and criticism of https://www.reciperadar.com/ (commentary and review are valid forms of contribution).

What are your skill sets?

Im fairly familiar with the whole stack (but I constantly feel like it’s only a beginner understand).

Mostly React(Js, html css), Java, Spring Boot, SQL Server, Python. I also dabble with Unity(C#) and have some experience in C++.

I’m sort of stuck in a position at work where I’m developing my security / network skills but not so much software development so any skills I want to improve I have to do outside of work.
