Just more rk3588. Pine64 and Radxa will have rk3588 boards too (presumably with more than just 8 GB, the rk3588 goes up to 32 GB AIUI).
I'm not sure I'm interested in an rk3588. For one, it is a Chinese company. Maybe you don't care but I do. Second, the core design is still old. Why? Mediatek is going to be shipping A78 cores around the same time, on a 6nm TSMC node instead of an 8nm Samsung node. Third, the rk356x has still not had its source code released for trustedfirmware-a. The new mediatek socs (mt8192 and mt8195) already have TF-A upstream.
Anyway here are some docs on the newer rockchip and mediatek SoCs, again the BPi board is using an rk3588 SoC.
Rockchip is a Taiwanese company, as is MediaTek - I won't use mainland China companies where possible, and some Taiwan companies run afoul of my ethics, but the distinction is important if you're concerned about these things.
Taiwan uses "made in China" for various reasons, which clouds things, too.
Sorry, you're right - I landed on a Taiwanese distributors page with broken English, thinking it was Rockchip's headquarters. Thanks for pointing it out!
It is embedded on the SoC for who knows what reason. All newer SoCs are embedding their AI crap, when they could just add a couple PCIe 2.0 lanes and let their customers buy a Coral TPU if needed. No doubt this custom silicon is distracting from core SoC functionality and adding to the BoM.
