For motorcycle helmets, one of the biggest downsides to foam protective layers is that the foam slowly degrades over time. Due to this, one must dispose of and replace a helmet every 5-7 years even without suffering an impact event.

If this material doesn't degrade like foam, that could lead to motorcycle helmets that could last indefinitely (as long as it doesn't suffer an impact).
