That took more effort than most people will put in.
Most HN participants will judge your post based on the content of your post, rather than taking the time to click thru to examine your position in the social hierarchy groupthink relative to mine or theirs, yours is merely 234 at this time, which is about one 59th of my exalted rank in the hierarchy. Given our power disparity I believe you're supposed to address me as Honored Sir, BTW. (just kidding... I think?)
As for Reddit its funny how classist it inherently is, given its political leanings of most of its few remaining unbanned participants.
That does occasionally happen, but there must be thousands of people clicking the up or down arrows for every person willing to do chilling effect e-stalking e-blackmail type stuff to intimidate people.
I'm just saying public participation in conversation moderating is much like public participation in voting where its a pretty extreme power law where most people lurk or barely themselves to click a button, but a very small minority will put in huge efforts for their cause.
That's most likely from the RES tagging feature. They may have had you tagged beforehand, or they may have downloaded one of the dozens of taglists floating around, after which they can simply click the tag and arrive at one of your most egregious posts.
If you don't want to get banned from Reddit, your best bet is to be a libertarian or a centrist liberal. Ever since their IPO was approaching Reddit admins have been banning or threatening leftist subreddits too.
Do people commonly pay attention to other people's karma on HN? I don't think I have even once. Although it's useful in seeing how people have responded to one's posts or comments, it's a pretty worthless statistic. I'm not really sure why we even have karma.
