If you have shamans/priests/prophets interpreting for folks who believe without evidence, it overlaps with religious practice. The etymology of “religion”, as I understand it, is “re-link” or “tie back/with”, and that may be to the origin/past, or believers together, the distinction is not captured in the word’s composition. If to the origin, ie the creation, then it’s not the same league of religion as the ones that connect to human origins.

There is a real high level of “have faith” and crowds that have faith together do interesting things, especially when someone is passing the hat.

I don’t think we have the right word for it, the behaviors without the supernatural or notions of spirituality. Happy to learn I missed the better word to capture.
