old.reddit.com works fine on desktop but displays itself as a desktop site on mobile so becomes difficult to navigate on the tiny screen of my phone.

I tried using i.reddit.com on my phone, but the links constantly redirects itself to the new reddit redesign and prompts me repeatedly to login, does not show me half of the replies and no access to NSFW subs.

At this point I became so frustrated with the site I just stopped using reddit altogether but found out about libreddit and teddit soon after.

i think some javascript is broken on the i.reddit.com site - you have to have logged in for it to work. But it works good most of the time after logging in.
