I use Linux in various forms since 1995's Summer, starting with Slackware 2.0, and yes GNU/Linux desktop experience is still far behind the alternatives.
I am remembered of it every day I have to reboot Network Manager on Ubuntu LTS to reconnect to my wlan, on a EEE PC that was even sold with Linux on it.
When this netbook dies, the only desktops I will keep using are on the form of Android, VMWare or some headless stuff, anything beyond POSIX APIs is always expecting too much.
